The T10 League is one of the newest cricket leagues in the world. The League is based in the United Arab Emirates and is played in a ten-over format. Therefore there are shorter games in general and the first edition of the newly founded league has been played in 2017.

The International Cricket Council has sanctioned the second season of T10 League and even though they are not officially supporting or patronizing it, they view it as a tool to promote cricket in general. Moreover, it also has the potential to grow the fan base.

“This sanction from ICC for T10 League gives our partners, stakeholders and more importantly the players a much-needed boost. Having said that, it additionally gives us responsibility to ensure we keep growing year-on-year and make this format globally acceptable,” said Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman, T10 League.

The league is owned by T Ten Sports Management, which is also based in the United Arabian Emirates. The Emirates Cricket Board approved the competition and each match lasts just 90 minutes which is extremely short compared to other cricket formats.

T10 League Teams

Currently, there are eight different teams playing in the third season of the T10 League. The teams are the Maratha Arabians, Qalandars, Deccan Gladiators, Bangla Tigers, Team Abu Dhabi, Northern Warriors, Delhi Bulls, and the Karnataka Tuskers.

 

 

Prior to the third season, the Sindhis, Bengal Tigers, and Pakhtoons have been replaced by the Deccan Gladiators, Delhi Bulls, and Bangla Tigers. Moreover, the Qalandars also joined the league on September 22, 2019.

T10 League Format

The league is played in a two-group format. Both groups consist of four teams each and every team has to play once against every other team from its group.

After the group stage has ended, there is a Super league which is followed by the Playoffs. The two teams with the greatest amounts of points are then playing against each other in the Qualifier. The Maratha Arabians won their match against Qalandars in 2019 by seven runs.

 

 

On the very same day, the Eliminator matches are deciding which team is going to advance to the Final. First, the third and fourth-ranked teams are playing against each other. Afterward, the team that lost the Qualifier is playing against the team that won the Eliminator round. The Deccan Gladiators won both games in the Eliminator and advanced to the Final in 2019. However, they lost against Maratha Arabians by 8 wickets.

T10 League Records

Even though the T10 league has only been running for three seasons, there are already some remarkable records. Several great players are playing in the T10 teams and have been therefore able to leave their footprints.

Luke Ronchi scored 197 runs in 2017, and Nicholas Pooran improved that record in 2018. He went for 324 runs in that season. However, his record did not last long, because Chris Lynn scored 371 runs in the 2019 campaign. The amount of runs has been increasing every year so far which makes the T10 league highly entertaining to watch.

 

 

During the 2017 season, there were three different players to score the most wickets: Sohail Tanvir, Rayad Emrit, and Hasan Ali. They all had five wickets. Hardus Viljoen however, absolutely crushed their record from the previous season by going for incredible 18 wickets. George Garton set the record for most wickets in 2020 by 12.
