The Bangladesh men’s national cricket team is also known as The Tigers. The team is a Full Member of the International Cricket Council ICC and played its first Test Match against India in Dhaka in November 2000 and therefore became the tenth Test-playing nation in cricket.

Even though Bangladesh had a fairly poor record in Test matches, the team quickly improved its One Day International record and has won 131 of its 379 matches thus far. Furthermore, the team has won 32 of its 96 Twenty20 Internationals.

Mohammad Ashraful

Ashraful has represented Bangladesh in all formats of the game and also captain the team in each format. He has been a world-class batsman for many years and was also selected to represent the ACC Asia XI One Day International side.

 

 

Ashraful captained the team between 2007 and 2009 for a total of 13 Tests and 38 ODIs. The Dhaka-born batsman holds the record for the fastest fifty in Test, ODI, and Twenty20 international matches amongst all Bangladeshi batsmen.

He is still representing Dhaka Division cricket team in Bangladesh’s ODI and first-class competitions even though he retired from international cricket in 2013.

Abdur Razzak

Abdur Razzak was the first Bangladeshi cricketer to play in the 2008 Indian Premier League. He was born in Khulna and played his first Test match against Australia on April 16th, 2006. He played for a total of 15 years for Bangladesh from 2004 until retiring from International cricket in 2018.

 

 

Though he has played just nine Tests, he has been more successful in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and was Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker in the format in 2013, when he reached the 200 wickets milestone. He was also Bangladesh’s first player to take 500 wickets in first-class cricket and was also the first player in history to take 600 first-class wickets for Bangladesh.

Aminul Islam

Aminul Islam represented the Bangladeshi cricket national team from 1988 to 2002. He competed in 13 Test matches and 39 One Day Internationals. Islam played his first One Day International match against India and scored 530 runs in tests and 794 runs in ODIs.

 

 

Even though Aminul had a fairly short-lived International career for Bangladesh, he played for the team in three ICC trophy tournaments in 1990, 1994, and 1997. He played a fairly low amount of ODI matches because Bangladesh only became a full member of the ICC in 2000.

Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib Al Hasan certainly deserves his spot on our list of the most successful Bangladeshi cricket batsmen. He was the International Cricket Council’s world-best all round in all three formats of the game in 2015 – he was the first and only cricketer in the world to achieve this status. Al Hasan made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe on August 6th, 2006.

 

 

Soon later he also made his Test debut on May 6th against India and became the team’s vice-captain in June 2009. After Mashrafe Mortaza got injured he took over the captaincy and became one of the youngest captains in history at 22 years. He was Bangladesh’s leading all-rounder between 2008 and 2019 and was ranked first amongst ODI all-rounders by the ICC in 2009.

Tamim Iqbal

Tamim Iqbal is currently captaining the Bangladesh One Day International team. He played his first ODI match against Zimbabwe on February 9th, 2007, and was born in Chittagong. Iqbal is furthermore currently playing first-class cricket for the Chittagong Division cricket team.

 

 

Moreover, he was the second Bangladeshi to play county cricket in England. He was signed by Nottinghamshire in June 2011 and replaced Australian batsman David Hussey. Iqbal has also been signed by the Pune Warriors India for the 2012 Indian Premier League.
