eSports Career of Faker
“Faker” professional eSports career started in December 201 when the Korean League of Legends server was launched. With nick “GoJeonPa” he climbed Korean ladder and became one of the best mid-laners in the server. Logically he received a lot of offers from professional teams, but in the end, he decided to sign up with SKT 1 Telecom. Faker made his competitive debut in 2013 at OLYMPUS Champions Spring 2013 where SKT faced tournament favorites Blaze. With incredible play, Faker manage to outplay Blaze’s mid player and led the team to an unexpected victory.
League of Legends World Championship
After SKT 1 won Korean Regional Finals, they secured the third seed in the World Championship. At that moment, Faker was recognized as the best League of Legends player in the world and his team went to Los Angelis finals as favorites. After perfect games in the group stage, and easy wins in the quarter and semi finals, Korean team defeated Chinese Royal Club, team in the final, in front of more than 20 000 fans at Staple Center,LA.
Korean Championship
In season 4 SKT 1 Telecom domination continued as they finished undefeated in Korean championship, becoming the 1st team that wins 2 championships in Korea. At the end of the year, however, proved troublesome for SKT, since they didn’t manage to defend their title in World Championship, losing from Najin White Shield at Korean Regional Finals after an embarrassing performance by all players. The 2015 season began with a major upheaval in the Korean League of Legends scene as governing body Kespa implemented a new league-based format and a large number of high-profile Korean stars were signed to Chinese teams.
Faker leaving SKTT1?
Even though there were rumors, that Faker might leave SKTT1, he decided to stick with his team. Now, he is splitting his playtime on the team with the mid-laner for SKTT1 S, Easyhoon. At the Mid-Season Invitational, an event where the winners of each region competed in a dress rehearsal of the World Championship to come. The team went undefeated in the group stage but lost its final match again their biggest rivals Edward Gaming. Unfortunately, Faker’s perfect record with LeBlanc was shattered in the last game of the grand final.
Domestically however, SKT had not missed a beat and went undefeated in the first round of the 2015 LCK Summer Season. Basically, Faker took his supremacy in the mid lane to a new level. The Korean prodigy notched up ten MVP performances in just fifteen games played.
